Meadows donates to skate park

Hood River Parks and Recreation District Director Lori Stirn announced this week that Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort has donated $1,000 to the Hood River Skatepark fund. Meadows VP Dave Riley said, “We support the new skatepark because we feel that outdoor recreation is a great way for kids to keep themselves occupied and in good physical shape.” The parks district is currently raising funds to enhance the Rotary Skatepark, located at 20th and Wasco streets. Lawnmower torches Arbor Vitae on Portland Drive

The riding lawn mower driven by Norma Cannon overheated and made contact with dry arbor vitae owned by Lee and Norma Curtis, sending more than a dozen of the tightly-packed trees up in flames. The mower, visible at far right, was totaled. No one was injured; neighbors first kept the fire at bay with garden hoses and Westside and Hood River Fire Departments responded and doused the fire before it reached any structures.
