‘Absynth,’ Barnes at River City
On Thursday, Jan. 19, it’s the Absynth Quintet, capturing “the essence of cutting edge acoustic music, landing somewhere on the spectrum between jazz and bluegrass.” On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21, catch Victor Barnes. Hailing from Colorado, Barnes “has been wearing out shoes on dance floors from Seattle to New Orleans with his original style of bluegrass-infused music since 1999.” River City Saloon is at 205 Cascade Ave., in Hood River. Film festival seeks entries
The 2006 Parkdale Film Festival is seeking film submissions. The deadline for films is March 15 (the festival date is May 6). DVD or VHS formats are accepted, and there is no entry fee. Family concerts at Sushi Okalani
Sushi Okalani is presenting a free family concert series as part of the “Aloha Sundays” celebration. On Sunday, Jan. 22, Victor Johnson will perform songs from his recent children's music CD, from 4-6 p.m. Sushi Okalani, 109 First St., Hood River; 386-7423.
Grant, more at CEBU Lounge
Best Western Hood River Inn announces that every third Wednesday of the month, beginning Jan. 18, Tom Grant will be playing in the CEBU Bamboo Lounge from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tom Grant, a master instrumentalist and talented singer, will be joined by various jazz artists from around the Northwest.

The Dalles Theatre Co. presents
‘The Nit Wits’
The Theatre Company of The Dalles presents the “Nit Wits,” a comedy play by Glenn Hughes at The Little Theater (Building 2), at Columbia Gorge Community College. Performance dates are Feb. 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, & 18 with a showtime of 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Klindt’s Book Sellers in The Dalles or at the door.
