The musical season: Schools present winter concerts

This time of year schools throughout the region have scheduled evening performances showcasing what the youngsters have learned in class this fall.

Parkdale Elementary School (pictured at right) presents its winter concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 11.

Horizon Christian School holds its pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade concert Dec. 13, and elementary band music concert from 5-6 p.m. Dec. 18.

Mid Valley Elementary’s concerts are Dec. 17 for kindergarten through second grade and Dec. 18 for the upper grades, both at 7 p.m.

Mid-Columbia Adventist School presents its annual pageant Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.

Concerts typically involve choral numbers as well as exhibitions of students’ newly formed talents on percussion and other instruments.

I Can't Keep Quiet singers at "Citizen Town Hall"

‘I can’t keep quiet,’ sing members of an impromptu choir in front of Hood River Middle School Saturday prior to the citizen town hall for questions to Rep. Greg Walden. The song addresses female empowerment generally and sexual violence implicitly, and gained prominence during the International Women’s Day events in January.
