Wrestlers place at Freestyle, Greco state

High school and club wrestlers from Hood River wrapped up post-season mat time recently with the annual Oregon Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling state championships. Championships for the two styles are held separately; one on Saturday and the other on Sunday, which means wrestlers competing in both styles were in for a long weekend. In post-post season action, willing wrestlers will practice for and compete in the Oregon Beach Wrestling Championships later this month at Pacific City.

Freestyle state highlights:

Christian Marquez — third (for 8th/9th grade)

Greco-Roman state highlights:

Juan Karlos Hernandez — fifth

Kyle Weseman — fourth (8th/9th grade)

I Can't Keep Quiet singers at "Citizen Town Hall"

‘I can’t keep quiet,’ sing members of an impromptu choir in front of Hood River Middle School Saturday prior to the citizen town hall for questions to Rep. Greg Walden. The song addresses female empowerment generally and sexual violence implicitly, and gained prominence during the International Women’s Day events in January.
