The Wy’east High School Class of 1969 has set its reunion dates and is seeking classmate contacts. The class did not get a 40th reunion organized in 2009, but is this year planning a reunion recognizing the 44th year since graduation and the benchmark of reaching the age of “Social Security Eligibility.”
This relaxed and casual event, focusing on offering an opportunity to reconnect with classmates and “catch up,” will be held Sept. 6-7, beginning with an informal Friday evening gathering in Hood River and continuing with a Saturday evening banquet at the Best Western Hood River Inn.
Details will be emailed and mailed to class members soon. The reunion organizing committee is still seeking the current contact email and mailing addresses of numerous class members.
Anyone having contact information for one or more far-flung Wy’east Class of 1969 members is asked to email classmate contact information to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Terri Vann at 541-490-6557 or Davinne McKeown-Ellis at 541-386-4475. Please leave a message if there is no answer.

Lawnmower torches Arbor Vitae on Portland Drive
The riding lawn mower driven by Norma Cannon overheated and made contact with dry arbor vitae owned by Lee and Norma Curtis, sending more than a dozen of the tightly-packed trees up in flames. The mower, visible at far right, was totaled. No one was injured; neighbors first kept the fire at bay with garden hoses and Westside and Hood River Fire Departments responded and doused the fire before it reached any structures. Westside Fire chief Jim Trammell, in blue shirt, directs firefighters. The video was taken by Capt. Dave Smith of Hood River Fire Department. Enlarge
