Robert Barker

Robert S. “Bob” Barker, 81, passed away Nov. 3, 2013, at his home in Portland, Ore. He was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Hood River, Ore., to Russell Scobee and Elma R. Shannon Barker.

Services were held Nov. 12 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

He is survived by his wife, Kathi Barker, son Gregory and grandson Kyle, all of Portland.

Michael Vanderslice

Michael Vanderslice, 50, passed away unexpectedly on Monday Dec. 9, 2013, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital surrounded by those he loved. Michael was born Sept. 14, 1963.

I Can't Keep Quiet singers at "Citizen Town Hall"

‘I can’t keep quiet,’ sing members of an impromptu choir in front of Hood River Middle School Saturday prior to the citizen town hall for questions to Rep. Greg Walden. The song addresses female empowerment generally and sexual violence implicitly, and gained prominence during the International Women’s Day events in January. The singers braved a sudden squall to finish their song and about 220 people gathered in HRMS auditorium, which will be the scene of the April 12 town hall with Rep. Greg Walden, at 3 p.m. Enlarge
