Horizon boys nab 21st straight win

A young, but gritty, Dufur squad provided Horizon Christian’s top-ranked boys basketball team some concern for a quarter Tuesday night before the Hawks methodically pulled away to a 70-36 Big Sky Conference win in Hood River.

Horizon (21-0 overall, 10-0 league) led 16-14 after one quarter, but used a 23-5 second-period scoring advantage to take control of the one-time close game. A 16-0 scoring run over a five-minute span of the second quarter helped the Hawks pad their lead.

Horizon had four players hit double figures in scoring, led by Jake Wells with 17 points. The senior post also pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds. Teammates Matt Totaro, Jared Davis and Mason Bloomster added 16, 14 and 13 points, respectively. Totaro and Davis each had five assists, as well.

The West Division league-leading Dufur girls defeated Horizon, 47-14. Katie Tolbert led Horizon with 10 points, as only three Hawk players scored in the contest. Marlie Bloomster did have a game-high nine rebounds.
