The Hood River High School Class of 1963 will hold its 50-year reunion Aug. 17 from 2-5 p.m. in the Shoreline Room at Best Western Hood River Inn. The cost is $20 per person and includes light hors d’oeuvres. Send to Dave Jubitz, P.O. box 52, Hood River, OR 97031.

The Hood River Valley High School Class of 1973 will hold its 40-year reunion Aug. 16-18. The weekend will kick off with a Friday night meet-and-greet at the Elks Lodge, Third and Cascade in downtown Hood River, beginning at 6 p.m. and going into the night. There will be a no-host bar and entertainment, and dinner will be available for purchase.
Saturday will start with a tour at Hood River Valley High School at 4 p.m., to be followed later by dinner and dancing at Divots restaurant at Indian Creek Golf Course. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner and dancing to live music starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free but $10 donations at the door are appreciated.
There will be a potluck picnic Sunday at Jackson Park, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Teachers and surrounding classes are also welcome to attend.

The Wy’east High School class of 1968 is planning its 45-year class reunion for the weekend of Aug. 17-18. There will be a dinner at the Elks Lodge in Hood River at 7 p.m. with a social gathering starting at 5:30. On Sunday there will be a potluck picnic at Tollbridge Park near Parkdale.

The Wy’east High School Class of 1969 has set its reunion dates and is seeking classmate contacts. This relaxed and casual event will be held Sept. 6-7, beginning with an informal Friday evening gathering in Hood River and continuing with a Saturday evening banquet at the Best Western Hood River Inn.

Saturday night will feature a $30 per person catered dinner with no-host bar at Divots Restaurant at Indian Creek Golf Course. Sunday family activities will be a picnic at Jackson Park starting at 9:30 a.m., with kickball at Collins Field, and Solstice Wood Fire pizza available from noon to 2 p.m. Friday night activities will include an informal gathering of friends with more info TBA.

Lawnmower torches Arbor Vitae on Portland Drive
The riding lawn mower driven by Norma Cannon overheated and made contact with dry arbor vitae owned by Lee and Norma Curtis, sending more than a dozen of the tightly-packed trees up in flames. The mower, visible at far right, was totaled. No one was injured; neighbors first kept the fire at bay with garden hoses and Westside and Hood River Fire Departments responded and doused the fire before it reached any structures.
