Ethella Cramblett, 91, passed away Sept. 27, 2013, at the Parkhurst House Assisted Living Facility in Hood River, Ore. Ethella was born Feb. 5, 1922.

Carroll Tveidt

Carroll J. Tveidt, 89, passed away Sept. 28, 2013, at the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles, Ore. Carroll was born July 24, 1924, in Valley Springs, S.D.

Private services at Idlewilde Mausoleum in Hood River, with military honors performed by the United States Marine Corps are planned. Memorials are encouraged to be made in Carroll’s name to the Hood River Valley Adult Center Meals on Wheels program.

David Ray Neuvirth, 46, passed away Sept. 30, 2013, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital. David was born May 2, 1967.

Lawnmower torches Arbor Vitae on Portland Drive

The riding lawn mower driven by Norma Cannon overheated and made contact with dry arbor vitae owned by Lee and Norma Curtis, sending more than a dozen of the tightly-packed trees up in flames. The mower, visible at far right, was totaled. No one was injured; neighbors first kept the fire at bay with garden hoses and Westside and Hood River Fire Departments responded and doused the fire before it reached any structures.
