Swim meet canceled

The swim meet versus The Dalles scheduled for Jan. 2 in Hood River was canceled due to The Dalles coach not being able to make the meet because of a family emergency, reported HRV Head Coach Kelly Cunnigham. The News will provide an update if/when the meet is rescheduled. The next meet will be an invitational scheduled for this Saturday at the Hood River Aquatic Center. Races begin at 10:15 a.m.

Horizon Christian basketball games canceled

The Hawks were to return to action this week with the boys and girls teams scheduled to play Damascus Christian Tuesday evening in Hood River. However, HCS Athletic Director Brian Stenberg made the call to cancel the games Tuesday morning “due to the inclement weather and weather advisories in effect for Portland and the Gorge...” The News will provide an update if/when the games are rescheduled. With the games canceled, the Hawks will now prepare for the start of their league schedule with games this Friday against Sherman. The girls varsity will play at 6 p.m., while the boys will play at 7:30. The boys enter Big Sky play with a 2-4 record and a No. 9 ranking in the 1A classification. The girls will start with a 2-3 record and a No. 17 ranking. The Sherman girls have struggled mightily so far this season and are winless through seven games, earning the Huskies the No. 58 spot in 1A. The Sherman boys, however, are 5-4 and are one spot ahead of Horizon in the 1A rankings.
