JoAnn S. Brandl
October 16, 1942 - December 17, 2009
JoAnn S. (Platz) Brandl passed in her West Sacramento, Calif., residence on Dec. 17, 2009, at the age of 67 after her diligent battle against cancer.
JoAnn Platz was born Oct. 16, 1942, in Evanston, Ill. She and her family moved to Skokie, Ill., where she grew up.
In 1961 JoAnn met and married Joseph Gerald Brandl (Jerry) and in the years that followed they had four children. In 1964 their oldest child, Judith, passed away at 18 months. In 1971 they moved to Cascade Locks, Ore.
Jerry and JoAnn owned and operated The Locks Restaurant & Lounge until 1976, then took over ownership of the Cascade Locks 76 fuel station.
In 1985 Jerry and JoAnn decided to pick up their roots and move to a warmer climate. They settled in Cottonwood, Calif., for the next couple of years, finally settling in West Sacramento, Calif. JoAnn was a homemaker and Jerry spent many years in the transportation industry.
JoAnn will be remembered for her love of family and friends. She especially loved visiting her kids in Oregon and crabbing at The Jetty Fishery (she loved eating the crabs more than catching them). She also loved playing bingo with her friends.
JoAnn leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Jerry Brandl; daughter Patricia A. Maxey and her husband, Jack, of Gresham, Ore.; sons Joseph J. Brandl, of Canby, Ore., and Kenneth M. Brandl, of Vancouver, Wash.; sisters Lynn E. Schmidt, of McHenry, Ill., and Vickie Briacacek, of Colorado; brother Ronald Platz, of Redding, Calif.; and two grandchildren, David L. Maxey, of Gresham, Ore., and Charity L. Maxey, of Eugene, Ore.
A graveside service will be held at Cascade Locks Cemetery at a date and time to be announced. Cremation services were handled by River Cities Funeral Chapel in West Sacramento.
