Audrey Cain died at her home Thursday morning, July 2, 2009, with her husband and family, under the care of Hospice of the Gorge. She had been battling cancer for some time and finally had to give up the fight.
Audrey was born March 12, 1927, in Buhl, Idaho, to Everett and Lovell Hustead, where she also married her husband, Deward (Dude) Cain. She owned her own beauty salon, and after Audrey and Dude retired they bought a fifth-wheel and traveled the country and eventually followed their two boys to Hood River in 1989.
Audrey loved to stitch beautiful embroideries and many of her friends and family will remember her forever through the artwork she gave to them. She always greeted everyone with a hug and a smile and words of encouragement. She will be missed.
Audrey was a loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dude; her three children: Pamela and her husband, Selway Mulkey, of Pahrump, Nev., Rick and his wife, Elise Cain, of Mt. Hood, Ore., and Darrell and his wife, Sharon Cain, of Hood River, Ore.
She had four grandchildren: Derek Mulkey, of Palo Alto, Calif., Justin Mulkey, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Trevor Mulkey, of the World, and Elliot Cain, of Mt. Hood, Ore.; five great-grandchildren: Zachary, Seth and Eli Mulkey, of Colorado Springs and Sam and Emily Audrey Ruskin Mulkey, of Palo Alto, Calif.
The Cain family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of the Gorge for the tender care that they showed to Audrey and would ask that in lieu of flowers anyone interested would donate to the Hospice of the Gorge.
Audrey requested to be cremated and the family is having its own private ceremony to celebrate Audrey’s life.
