Yvonne Denise Clotilde Harvey
November 6, 1926 - unknown
Yvonne Denise Clotilde Leblois Harvey loved life! She was born on Nov. 6, 1926, in Paris, France.
The world has lost a colorful canary, a woman who found every occasion a cause for song. Having survived the German occupation of Paris as a young girl, she embraced every day, cherished each moment and found the good in all situations.
After the war, she married an American airman, Herschel Harvey, and moved to the United States. She did not leave France behind, but brought it with her.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts at Huntington College and headed the language department at the Montgomery Academy in Montgomery, Ala. She conversed in more than five different languages, including French Sign Language.
After retiring, Herschel and Yvonne relocated to the Snowden community in Washington, where she served on the community council.
Wherever Yvonne lived, she found and united Francophiles through events and activities.
Yvonne loved to paint, play the accordion and sing. She spent her last years in Hood River and The Dalles, Ore., and died peacefully in the loving care of the staff at Mary Alva’s Senior Class.
She is survived by her two children, Marc Harvey, of Lyle, Wash., and Jacqueline Newbold, of Bend, Ore.; four grandchildren: Prescott Harvey, Reed Harvey, Madeleine Newbold and Zoe Newbold; and one great-grandchild, Winston Harvey.
The family is having a private service. We will miss her greatly.
Arrangements are under the direction of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles, OR 97058; 541-296-3234.
